Senior Trooper James Bartram was killed in a two-vehicle accident on State Road 144 near Waverly.

Fifteen minutes after beginning his shift, he had made a U-turn and was proceeding westbound in an attempt to initiate a traffic stop.

As he approached Smokey Row Road, a southbound vehicle made a left-hand turn into his path, causing him to lose control of his squad car.

He collided with an oncoming pickup truck, and its occupants, a 34-year-old man and his 7-year-old son, as well as Senior Trooper Bartram died at the scene.

Senior Trooper Bartram, from Mooresville, was assigned to the Putnamville post. He was single and survived by his identical twin brother, who was also a trooper from the same post, and his fiancée.
