   Trooper Roy Jones was killed in a single-vehicle accident while responding to assist the Markleville town marshal and a Madison County sheriff's deputy who had stopped a vehicle they had pursued after running a stop sign.

   Trooper Jones was responding with lights and siren on State Road 38 in Pendleton when another car pulled out in front of him on a curve. He swerved to avoid a collision and struck a tree, killing him instantly of massive injuries.

   Trooper Jones, from Lapel, was assigned to the Pendleton post. He was survived by his wife, three sons and daughter.
