Trooper Robert Garrison was killed in a three-vehicle accident while responding to a report of a child bitten by a dog.

He was westbound on State Road 67, six miles east of Daleville, when he swerved into a filling station to avoid hitting a stopped vehicle.

His squad car struck that vehicle making a left-hand turn in front of him and was broadsided by a truck, killing him instantly from a skull fracture.

Trooper Garrison, from Montpelier, was assigned to the Redkey post. He was survived by his expectant wife, son, daughter, parents, four brothers and five sisters.
