   Detective Matthew Dorley was shot and killed while attempting to make an arrest.

   He and his partner were attempting to arrest three robbery suspects at the Vandalia Railroad yards, near 6th and Tippecanoe streets.

   A gunbattle ensued and Detective Dorley was shot. He was taken to Saint Anthony's Hospital where he died.

   A 20-year-old suspect was shot and killed by Detective Dorley's partner.

   Detective Dorley was survived by his wife and father.
