Incident DetailsCause of Death:
Reserve Deputy Tracy Miles was killed after being struck by a motor home while talking to a motorist on the side of Interstate 65 near the 96-mile marker.
While patrolling the highway, he stopped to place a tow notice on an abandoned vehicle but observed two individuals attaching a tow rope to it on his return patrol. He stopped again, asked the driver for identification, and was standing next to the door of the vehicle.

The impact threw Reserve Deputy Miles 126 feet down the roadway and he suffered multiple internal injuries.
The 70-year-old driver of the 19-foot motor home stopped immediately to offer his assistance and was not charged.
Reserve Deputy Miles was survived by his wife, 2-year-old son, father, stepmother and two brothers.
