   Patrolman George Spencer and Captain Joseph Simmerman were both shot and killed by an intoxicated man in front of the Faroh Bros. store on Franklin Street while taking a woman to the police station for questioning.

   After fleeing the scene, the suspect fatally shot himself a short time later.

   Patrolman Spencer was survived by his wife and four small children.
