   Patrolman Jacub Manka was shot and killed while walking his beat by a subject in his stocking feet attempting to burglarize a residence.

   As he approached him in an alley, the 30-year-old man turned and fired, hitting Patrolman Manka in the chest.

   The suspect was shot and killed by Patrolman Manka before staggering into a nearby tavern where he collapsed.

   He was taken to a local doctor's office and died from his wound about an hour later.

   Patrolman Manka was survived by his wife, 2-year-old and 4-month-old children, and mother.
