   Lieutenant Phillip Morris suffered a fatal heart attack while engaged in a foot pursuit of a suspect on the Vincennes University campus.

   He was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital where he passed away.

   Lieutenant Morris, from Vincennes, was survived by his wife, two daughters, mother, two brothers, two sisters and four grandchildren.

Historical Notes

• Lieutenant Morris is the first known campus law enforcement line of duty death in Indiana.
• Vincennes University was permitted by state law to establish its own police department in 1971.
This officer, discovered in 2026, has not been submitted for consideration as an eligible line of duty death to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund by the Vincennes University Police Department.
