   Deputy Sheriff Timothy Guyer died while attending the 230th Basic Course at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield.

   After completing a mandatory physical training class during the 14th week of the 16-week training course with 172 other recruits, he was found unresponsive in the bunk of his dormitory room when he did not report for breakfast.

   Although life-saving measures were immediately initiated, those attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

   Deputy Guyer, from Trafalgar, was survived by his wife, Carri Rae (née Windhorst); son, Elijah James Guyer; daughters, Kalyn Kathleen Guyer, Lauren Elizabeth (Caden) Walker and Matalyn Grace Guyer; grandson, Jenson Guyer; brothers, Todd Raymond (Amy) Guyer and Steven Guyer; and paternal grandmother, Betty Guyer.

Historical Notes

• Deputy Sheriff Guyer is the seventh of seven Indiana line of duty deaths in 2023.
• He is the third line of duty death of the Johnson County Sheriff's Department.
• His line of duty death is the seventh that has originated from Johnson County.
