   Reserve Deputy Sheriff James Driver was killed in a two-vehicle accident while responding to another traffic accident.

   He was responding southbound with his emergency lights and siren activated when his squad car was struck north of the intersection.

   A 22-year-old male driver of a northbound truck and trailer attempted to stop but lost control and crossed into the oncoming lane where the trailer collided with his squad car.

   His squad car rolled off the road before stopping, ejecting him from the vehicle. He was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital where he died from his injuries.

   Reserve Deputy Sheriff Driver, from Spencer, was survived by his wife, Anna (née Argenbright); daughter, LilyAnne Marie; stepson, Franklin Woodruff; stepdaughter, Beau Woodruff; parents, Alan and Kathleen (née Keys); sister, Maria Yazamaidi; and maternal grandmother, Annie Keys.

Memorial Tribute

• In 2022, a section of Interstate 69 at Exit 120 in Monroe County was dedicated the Reserve Deputy Sheriff James Driver Memorial Bridge in his honor.

Historical Notes

• Reserve Deputy Sheriff Driver is the second of eight Indiana line of duty deaths in 2021.
• He is the third line of duty death of the Monroe County Sheriff's Department.
• His line of duty death is the eighth that has originated from Monroe County.
