   Trooper Peter Stephan was killed in a single-vehicle accident while responding to assist another trooper who was holding several suspects at gunpoint.

   He was traveling northbound on Old State Road 25, south of Stair Road, when he entered a curve en route to Americus. His patrol car left the east side of the roadway, rolled at least once and struck a utility pole.

   He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

   Trooper Stephan, from Kokomo, was assigned to the Lafayette post. He was survived by his wife, Jessica (née Harper); 6-month-old daughter, Harper; parents, Dr. Peter and Karen (née Hogston) Stephan; sisters, Shelley (Alan) Wilson and Haley (fiancé Ron Snyder); and brothers, Jonah Stephan and Charley Treat.

Memorial Tribute
• In 2020, State Road 25 from County Road 450 North in Tippecanoe County to U.S. 421 in Carroll County was dedicated the Trooper Peter "Bo" Stephan Memorial Highway in his honor.
Historical Notes
• Trooper Stephan is the second of two Indiana line of duty deaths in 2019.
• His is the 44th line of duty death of the Indiana State Police.
• His line of duty death is the seventh that has originated from Tippecanoe County.
