Incident Details
Cause of Death:Chief of Police David Hewitt was killed in a single-vehicle accident on State Road 56 near Spring Branch Road south of Vevay while en route to the police station.
As his vehicle struck icy conditions on the highway, it slid off the road and overturned, causing Chief Hewitt to be ejected. He was airlifted to Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton, Kentucky, where he died from his injuries.
Chief of Police Hewitt had served over 20 years with the Rising Sun Police Department. He had previously served with the Dearborn County Sheriff's Department, Lawrenceburg Police Department and Switzerland County Sheriff's Department.
He was survived by his wife, Donna (née Taylor); son, David Andrew 'Drew'; daughter, Olivia Jane; stepson, Jake Taylor; stepdaughter, Sydney Taylor; parents, Paul and Rosalie 'Rosie' (née Lawson) Hewitt; and sisters, Denise (Russell) Taylor and Lisa (David) Williams.
