Officer Harry Bolin was killed while riding an interurban freight train.

As the slow-moving train passed beneath a railroad elevation, he was struck by a danger sign protruding from a steel support.

After he was found lying unconscious in the street by a taxicab driver, he was taken to City Hospital with a crushed chest and head injuries.

Officer Bolin was survived by his wife, son and daughter.

The responsibilities of the Indianapolis Police Department (1854–2006) are now under the jurisdiction of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
