   Motorcycle Policeman William Mueller died while in pursuit of a hit-and-run suspect.

   He and his partner were investigating a hit-and-run accident at Wyoming and New Jersey streets and followed the suspected offender into an alley.

   As they continued to follow the suspect, Policeman Mueller collapsed, falling backwards in the sidecar of their motorcycle. He was transported to City Hospital where he died.

   Motorcycle Policeman Mueller was survived by his wife and stepson.

 


The responsibilities of the Indianapolis Police Department (1854–2006) are now under the jurisdiction of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
