   Master Trooper David Deuter was struck and killed by a semitrailer while making a traffic stop westbound on the Indiana Toll Road (Interstate 80/90) near Howe.

   He was standing next to the driver's side door of the stopped vehicle near milepost 129 when he was struck.

   The 70-year-old suspect was charged and later pleaded guilty to reckless homicide. He was sentenced to two years in prison and released in 2002.

   Master Trooper Deuter, from Angola, was assigned to the Toll Road district. He was survived by his wife and four daughters.
