Deputy Sheriff Thaddeus Conner was struck and killed by a vehicle while investigating a traffic accident on U.S. 231 north of Dale.
He was struck while setting flares down on the rain-slickened roadway. He was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Huntingburg where he was pronounced dead.
No charges were filed against the 83-year-old male driver who struck Deputy Conner.
Deputy Sheriff Conner, from Lamar, was survived by his wife, three sons, stepdaughter, parents and two sisters.
