Officer Norman Bretz was killed in a single-vehicle accident while performing alcohol beverage permit inspections about seven miles southeast of Boonville.
His vehicle left State Road 161 on a sharp curve, struck a utility pole and was ejected from his vehicle.
Officer Bretz, from Rockport, was survived by his wife and two children.
