   Corrections Employee Harold Rice was beaten to death at the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City.

   An inmate clerk reporting to work at the prison's laundry found Corrections Employee Rice on the floor having been brutally beaten. He had been struck on the head 13 times with a blunt instrument and was taken to the infirmary where he was pronounced dead.

   A 23-year-old male inmate, who was serving 2 to 21 years for involuntary manslaughter, was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison where he died in 2014.

   A 29-year-old male inmate, who was serving a life sentence for murder, was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison where he died in 2009.

   Corrections Employee Rice, from Michigan City, was the laundry foreman at the facility and previously served as a correctional officer at the prison for 6½ years. He was survived by his wife.
