Incident Details
Cause of Death:Patrolman Douglas Adams was killed in a two-vehicle accident involving another squad car while both were responding to back up another officer who was in a foot pursuit.
As their squad cars collided at an intersection, Patrolman Adams was ejected and killed instantly. The officer in the other squad car suffered minor injuries.
The 22-year-old suspect involved in the foot pursuit was eventually captured. He was subsequently convicted of resisting law enforcement, sentenced to three years in prison and discharged in 2002. The offender was also convicted of drug trafficking that occurred three days after this incident, sentenced to 20 years and discharged in 2012.
Patrolman Adams had previously served as a reserve officer with the North Liberty Police Department. He was survived by his wife.
