Night Policeman George Lee was shot and killed as he interrupted a thief at the Alexandria Post Office.

As he walked out of an alley, Night Policeman Lee was struck in the abdomen. He was able to return fire before the suspect fled the scene.

A male suspect, who was wounded in his arm, was arrested in Swayzee two days later. He was charged with first-degree murder, which was later dismissed for lack of evidence.

Night Policeman Lee was survived by his wife and father.
