Sergeant Richard Lawrence suffered a fatal heart attack while at the scene of a domestic disturbance call.
He had placed a female suspect in his patrol car after a brief struggle and went back inside the house to check on the welfare of her children.
Another officer found Sergeant Lawrence having difficulty breathing when he suffered a fatal heart attack. He was taken to La Porte Hospital where he died shortly after midnight.
Sergeant Lawrence was survived by his wife.
