Incident Details
Cause of Death:Patrolman Francis Mulvihill and Patrolman Martin O'Brien were shot and killed by men believed to be part of the Dillinger Gang.
The officers were patrolling a rural section of Gary Road when they stopped next to a parked car with four occupants. The suspects opened fire with Thompson submachine guns without warning, striking both officers multiple times before fleeing the scene.
Their bodies were found inside their squad car by a night watchman who was walking to work at a nearby business.
Patrolman Mulvihill was survived by his wife, 2-, 5- and 7-year-old sons, 3-month, 3- and 4-year-old daughters, parents and two brothers.
