Patrolman Charles Rajchinetz was shot and killed as he returned home while on duty.

As he worked the night shift from 8:00 pm until 6:00 am, his movements were known to within six minutes of the time he was shot in front of his house.

Station records showed he made his hourly report by telephone from a restaurant before leaving for his residence a block away in a taxicab.

The only clue police had was that a green automobile with four occupants had been seen speeding away after the shooting. None of the suspects were ever apprehended.

Patrolman Rajchinetz was survived by his wife, son, four daughters and parents.
