   Deputy Sheriff Milton Starkey was killed when his patrol car was struck head-on while responding to a domestic disturbance call.

   An intoxicated driver crossed the center line and struck his vehicle on Pennsylvania Street, one mile south of State Road 18. Deputy Starkey's son, who was riding with him at the time, was seriously injured but recovered.

   The 27-year-old male driver who caused the accident was also killed.

   Deputy Sheriff Starkey, from Fairmount, had previously served with the Fairmount Police Department for six years. He was survived by his wife, three daughters, two sons, one grandson, five granddaughters, brother and sister.

   His son, who was riding with him, had just graduated from the Indiana State Police Academy approximately 12 hours before the accident.
