   Officer Bradley Matteson died from injuries suffered in a vehicle accident while returning from a service call.

   His patrol vehicle, after being struck by a semitrailer which had run a red light, flipped over crushing the driver's side doors. Officer Matteson had to be extricated and was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries several hours later.

   The semitrailer driver later pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

   Officer Matteson had planned to retire in 2001. He was survived by his wife and three children.
