Incident DetailsCause of Death:
Patrolman Douglas Adams was killed in an automobile accident involving two squad cars responding to back up another officer who was in a foot pursuit.
As their squad cars collided at an intersection, Patrolman Adams was ejected and killed instantly. The officer in the other squad car suffered minor injuries.
The suspect involved in the foot pursuit was eventually captured. He was convicted of drug trafficking and resisting arrest, and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Patrolman Adams had previously served as a reserve officer with the North Liberty Police Department. He was survived by his wife.
