   Patrolman Tony Swartzlander was struck and killed by a vehicle containing two men wanted for armed robbery heading into town on U.S. 6 from LaPorte.

   The suspects, how had been pursued through three counties, struck Patrolman Swartzlander with their vehicle as he was attempting to set up a roadblock.

   The suspects crashed their car after striking Patrolman Swartzlander and were apprehended at the scene. They were later convicted of armed robbery and released from prison after serving their sentences.
