   Lieutenant Thomas Kleis was killed in an on duty auto accident during a high-speed chase. He lost control of his patrol car and hit a row of trees on Shelbyville Road near Edgewood Avenue.

   The 17-year-old suspect was arrested and later convicted of reckless homicide and involuntary manslaughter. He was sentenced to six years in prison.

   Lieutenant Kleis was survived by his wife, stepson, stepdaughter, mother, father and two brothers.
