   Detective Julius Gunther was shot and killed as he and other officers searched an apartment building for a man wanted in a shooting at a nearby pool hall.

   The 27-year-old suspect was arrested a week later in Chicago. He was later convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison but was paroled in 1933.

   Detective Gunther was survived by his wife and three small children.
