   Chief of Police Peter Redar died from injuries he suffered over two weeks earlier when his patrol car was struck by a semitrailer.

   Chief Redar was returning from photographing a death scene and was stopped at an intersection on U.S. 41 when the semitrailer jack-knifed on the slippery pavement and struck his patrol car. He was transported to St. Margaret Hospital in Hammond where he died of his injuries over two weeks later.

   Chief Redar was survived by his wife, two sons, two daughters, two brothers, sister and grandson. He is the second-longest serving known law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty in the state of Indiana.
